Hell, I remember the old Chrisius, and even through the prism of time it is obvious he was not always a cold-hearted scheming trolling bastard he has become. The myths of old Chrisius capable of reason and shame were reality back then.

By the way, this is kind of a strange thing to point out. No shit the USSR pervades Russia in its street-names, factory names and politicians (and people). They were named and born in the Soviet Union. How amazing.

I also think that most of these supposed myths are not myths, but remembered realities. The USSR vanished 18 whole years ago. That’s the living memory of the great majority of the population. Not myths.

Hell, I remember the USSR, and even from abroad it was obvious that many of these things the liberasti (thanks for the term Anatoli) like to say were myths were reality.

Did any of these Soviet dissident foes of Putin complain at all of the mass looting of the Russian economy by a handful of Jewish Oligarchs through gangster tactics of murder, theft and blackmail and there links to organised crime which in turn is itself the top brass is Jewish and hold Israeli passports and involved in things like sex trade of Russian girls to Israel.

How many of the people he complains about of supporting the Soviet regime after WW2 were Jewish?

I cannot fault Alexander Podrabinek’s argument. Why can the shashlik joint (sorry to me kebab house is quite another animal) not be named “Anti-Soviet”?

He praises the veterans for their efforts in the Great Patriotic War but condemns them for supporting and upholding the Soviet regime.

He points out the myths about the Soviet past and the way the Soviet Union pervades present-day Russia in its street-names, factory names and politicians.

The Anti-Soviet may only be a shashlik joint but it is symbolic of a malaise and a nostalgia that is dangerous especially in today’s economic crisis.

Podrabinek’s article is a reminder that the political debate about what should be done today is framed in terms of the greatness of the Soviet past.

It is time not only for contempt for the Soviets but judicial lustration. That might get Nashi talking!

I’m becoming increasingly convinced that a lot of the people who were portrayed as heroic dissidents were in fact just as mentally ill as the Soviets claimed. Who was that guy who actually turned out to be a schizophrenic? And the guy that hijacked the plane?
