Although I don’t think this is new information, it’s not reassuring that McCain had a close relationship with Saakashvili. Check out Thomas Barnett’s blog:

For what is worth, Barnett’s writings on strategy made a splash a few years ago. He was a professor at the Naval War College. Before that his BA degree was on Russian.

I think the relatively small sum is an indication of how little Georgia actually matters to the United States.

The perversity is more when they’ve given it i.e. during a financial meltdown, not how much.

This isn’t that perverse. Consider the aid we give to Israel every year. Then consider the aid we also give to Egypt.

This aid to Georgia is less than we give to Columbia, but more than we give Uganda or Kenya.

As I’ve said before, I’m quite sure this number will become much larger.
