Looks like Nashi (as a united movement) may now be PNG in Russia, too. Sadly I have no time to even attempt a post on this, although it may be something to wait a couple days on and see how the dust settles.

Here are some thoughts about this development. And some other, rather different thoughts.

SRB readers await a detailed analysis...

I believe the misspelling ugliness stems from Sean transliterating Estonian placenames from cyrillic sources where they have already been transliterated from original latin alphabet with some added Russian grammar. Won't look pretty whatever you do;)

And yes, the youths are hardly youths (bar Sirõk). And Goloskokov never made it to Tõnismägi - he was arrested in Lithuania after illegally crossing the border from Belarus, two countries away from his goal. Which is kind of annoying, with him being the nashist Estonian police would most love to get their hand on.

In historical context, the support of the Nazis by Estonians is no more damning than the that of the Lienz Cossacks. Given the fact that the death camps really weren’t known even to most Germans at the time, support for Nazis wasn't based in anti-semitism, it was based on the fact that USSR was a greater threat to national sovereignty. Furthermore, you can find neo-nazis in every country in the world today, including Israel.

As for the youtube comment, yeah obviously it isn’t the same as living in a country, and you generally only get exposure to the more youthful elements of a society. However, if you have the time, its pretty damn amazing what you can come across, what with the built in referencing and search functions. It supports Cyrillic too, so that’s nice. Rutube could be cool, but they have no server capacity or bandwidth.

Hey, is this the same tolerant progressive Estonia with the SS marchers stomping around, or is that a different one?

Technically, that should be "personae non gratae." It's plural you know. :)

"I find you can tell a lot about a country by spending some time on youtube."

You know its bad when you find yourself on the blacklist of one of the most tolerant, progressive countries in Europe.

I know it can be misleading, but I find you can tell a lot about a country by spending some time on youtube. The more I find out about Estonia, the more I find myself impressed by the country and its people. Unfortunately, I am afraid I can't say that about Russia to the degree I would like to.

the europeans sure know where to hit nashi where it hurts. people who have nothing better to do than to symbolically ring the death knell for european democracy a whole day still have the wherewithal to go sunsoaking in spain? something about this just does not compute. these nashi clowns add no value, zilch, zippo, to the political discourse. all they do is ad hominem stunts while pocketing bucketloads of money, apparently. and ill-gotten money is no fun if it can't burn through in courchevel or gstaadt. so visa restrictions will be like a kick in the sack to these loudmouths. seems like it's 1-0 for the eu. the lemmings ringing the bell for european democracy outside the eu commission legation in moscow do not realize they r in fact sounding a death knell to their summer vacation plans and winter ski holidays. maybe this will finally convince these ‘patriots’ to patronize russian resorts instead.

Some ugly spelling mistakes here.

Khariuskii court should be Harju County Court.
Tynimiagi -- you mean Tonismagi (Tõnismägi).

Also, Dmitri Klenski is no youth, he is 62. Linter is 34. Reva is 32. Siryk, well, he should be 18.

You say that Nochnoi Dozor is a fascist group. They call themselves anti-fascist actually. Whatever that means.
