Apologies if this seems like self-promotion, but I feel the need to correct the above trackback to "GuideMoscow.com." That website has been appropriating (stealing) entire posts from my blog and reposting them without any attribution whatsoever. I have left comments there, but of course have received no response, as the thing is probably run by a computer. Has anyone else encountered problems like this (I know the guys at English Russia sometimes like to cadge photo sets from people without attribution, but entire blog posts?!)? Anyway, I'll provide a manual trackback. My post which referenced Sean's post above can be found here.

Thanks. But it’s not a mistake. The 160 million is what the linked Kommersant article says the budget for youth politics is. And when you consider it in dollars, its not that much–less than $8 million.

PS Sean, oh historian-guy, it occurs to me you might be interested in some stuff I translated (you could read the originals yourself, but hey). It’s a bunch of articles Ilya Ehrenburg wrote for Krasnaya Zvezda during the war, plus an address he made asking American Jews to help the Soviet Union against the Nazis. One of them is probably one of the very first reports of the Holocaust.
