I don't know what to say but thank you. Your continued comments mean a lot. In terms of blogs, I must say you do a damn good job yourself. Sometimes I wonder how the hell you write so damn much. So I'll keep reading if you keep reading.

Sean - to put it simply:

You Rock.

Before I started my own blog, I was reading your blog, and Lyndon Allin, and others. I quickly decided that you, he, (and these others) - are just much better educated, resourced, informed, (what have you) - than I would ever be. This is despite my love, curiousity, and inquisitiveness ... of Russian culture.

So I decided to take a different cultural path in regards to discussion of Russia. I like this fact, because it allows me to express my own wonder and joy of new discoveries of Russian culture, in a different, less formal, setting.

Still, when I read an information-dense, well-cited, researched, and informed piece of writing like yours - I really am in admiration for your field of studies. I wish my Russian was so good, and my hours so long.

I spent a good 2 or 3 hours on the internet going over your figures, quizzing Katja, explaining suggestions in your writing. Thank you. I don't think former CCCP (or western) citizens will ever know the full extent of government influence and repression over its citizens, and how it affected Russian history of culture. But your research and writing is a great step in that direction.
